Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee and also received one demerit point for breaking the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Stadium on Sunday. Raghuvanshi was looking upset after getting dismissed in a rare and controversial way.

How Raghuvanshi got out during KKR's clash vs LSG

Raghuvanshi was batting on 9 runs from 7 balls in the fifth over of KKR’s innings when he played a ball from Prince Yadav towards mid-on and started running for a quick single. However, after a call from his batting partner, Cameron Green, he decided to turn back and return to the striker’s end.

While trying to get back, Raghuvanshi changed his running line and was hit by a direct throw from the fielder. LSG captain Rishabh Pant and his teammates immediately appealed for obstructing the field.

Why was Raghuvanshi fined?

After checking the replay, third umpire Rohan Pandit ruled him out, saying he had deliberately changed his path and blocked the throw. It was a rare dismissal and sparked plenty of discussion. Even the KKR dugout looked unhappy, with coaching staff seen talking to the match officials.

Raghuvanshi was visibly frustrated after the decision and walked back to the pavilion in anger. Later, the IPL confirmed that he had been fined for his reaction after the dismissal.

In an official statement, the IPL said Raghuvanshi breached Article 2.2 of the Code of Conduct, which deals with misuse or damage of cricket equipment, clothing, or ground property during a match. The statement added that after being given out for obstructing the field, he angrily hit the boundary cushion with his bat and then threw his helmet into the dugout in a similar manner. Raghuvanshi accepted the offence and also agreed to the punishment given by the match referee.
