Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of India's two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, scheduled to begin on August 15. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named Jammu and Kashmir pacer Aqib Nabi as his replacement.

Following the latest injury setback, former India fast bowler Karsan Ghavri has suggested that Bumrah should take an extended break from cricket to regain full fitness before making a comeback.

The veteran also believes the packed international calendar and constant workload management have made it difficult for Bumrah to remain injury-free over a sustained period.

Karsan Ghavri Urges Jasprit Bumrah To Prioritise Fitness

Jasprit Bumrah's injury concerns have once again come under the spotlight after he was ruled out of India's upcoming red-ball assignment against Sri Lanka.

Speaking about the star pacer's recurring fitness problems, former India seamer Karsan Ghavri said Bumrah should not rush his return and instead focus on making a complete recovery, even if it means staying away from cricket for several months.

“Bumrah should take a break for five to six months or even a year, and get back to 100 per cent fitness. The issue is that he goes into tournaments even if he’s half-fit and then, due to workload management, halfway through, there’s a breakdown. This is unnecessary. Only if he can manage his workload throughout a tournament should he be included in the team,” Ghavri told Mid-Day.

The former left-arm pacer also backed the return of experienced pacers Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, pointing out that both have remained available consistently despite playing demanding IPL seasons.

“Shami and Bhuvi have been playing consistently in the IPL without injuries and should return to the national set-up. Selectors should consider them. All fast bowlers face niggles or injuries, but Bumrah has been on and off for the last two-three years. He has hardly played an entire series. That’s not a good sign for him or for the country,” he added.
