Vaibhav Sooryavanshi created history on Wednesday (April 22) by becoming the fastest player in IPL history to reach 500 runs in terms of balls faced. The 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals youngster got to the milestone in just 227 deliveries, setting a new record.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's record

The earlier record was held by Glenn Maxwell, who took 260 balls. Priyansh Arya and Virender Sehwag had done it in 280 balls, while Naman Dhir reached the mark in 283. Sooryavanshi crossed the 500-run mark after scoring a couple of runs against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium.

He had already impressed everyone in his debut IPL season, where he scored 252 runs and won the best striker award at just 14 years of age, with a strike rate of over 200. This season, he has taken things even further, going past that run tally with an even better strike rate of around 235.

In this match against LSG, though, he couldn’t stay long after reaching the record. He was dismissed for 8 runs off 11 balls, which is one of his lowest scores in the IPL so far. It was also the first time in his career, apart from ducks, that his strike rate in an innings dropped below 100.

He began in his usual attacking style, hitting Prince Yadav for two boundaries in his first two balls. But things changed when left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan came into the attack.

Rajasthan Royals were already under pressure after losing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel early to Mohammed Shami. Mohsin used that situation well, bowling tight lines and not giving Sooryavanshi any room to play his shots.

The young batter tried to play carefully at first, but struggled when he looked to speed up. Eventually, he went for a big shot on a wide delivery, but the ball went high in the air and was safely caught by Digvesh Rathi.

Mohsin’s over turned out to be very important, as he didn’t give away any runs and picked up a key wicket. His approach could give other teams an idea of how to bowl to Sooryavanshi in future matches.
