Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz is being looked into by the Pakistan Cricket Board after he reportedly tested positive for the use of a recreational drug, as per a report by ESPNCricinfo. Because of this, his planned move to play for Surrey in England’s T20 Blast has now fallen through.
Nawaz recently played a match in the Pakistan Super League on Tuesday, where he represents Multan Sultans. However, he hasn’t had a great run in the tournament so far.

What are the Recreational drugs?
Recreational drugs are substances people use for pleasure or relaxation rather than for medical reasons. These can include things like alcohol, nicotine, cannabis, and other similar substances.
A PCB spokesperson said that the International Cricket Council had informed them about the issue, and the board has started its process to deal with it. They also mentioned that the outcome will be shared with the ICC soon.

The report states that the positive test goes back to the T20 World Cup held earlier this year. Nawaz, who is 32, played all seven matches for Pakistan in that tournament in Sri Lanka. He scored 15 runs and picked up seven wickets, but the team was knocked out in the Super 8 stage.
He had earlier agreed to join Surrey for the T20 Blast, which is set to run from May 26 to July 18. The PCB had even given him the No-Objection Certificate, and Surrey were expected to announce his signing soon. But with this issue coming up, the deal is now off, and he won’t be playing in England this season.
So far, there has been no official comment from Surrey or the ICC on the situation.
In the ongoing PSL, Nawaz has been a regular part of the Multan Sultans squad. In their recent match against Rawalpindi in Karachi, he finished with figures of 0 for 26 in three overs during their six-wicket win.
