Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has responded to the ongoing talk about a possible appearance in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Although he is now eligible to play after becoming a British citizen, the left-arm pacer said he has not yet decided whether he will enter the tournament.
Will Mohammad Amir feature in IPL?
Amir, who is currently playing for Trent Rockets in The Hundred as a domestic player, said his immediate plans include featuring in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as an overseas player from the 2027 season.

“I will play in the PSL in 2027 as an overseas player. As for the IPL, I don’t know yet whether I will participate,” Amir said.
The 34-year-old’s career in franchise cricket has taken a new turn since receiving British citizenship. Because of his new status, he can now play as a local player in English domestic competitions instead of taking up an overseas spot.
Earlier this year, Amir represented Nottinghamshire’s Notts Outlaws in the T20 Blast as a domestic player. He has also been picked by Trent Rockets in The Hundred under the same category.
How can Amir feature in the IPL?
Amir became a British citizen through his wife, Narjis Khan, who is a British national. After completing the required legal and residency process, he is now eligible to play in franchise leagues under his new status. This has also made him eligible for the IPL, although he has not confirmed whether he intends to take part.
For now, Amir is focused on his commitments in England. He also confirmed that he will return to the PSL in 2027, where he will be registered as an overseas player instead of a local one because of his British citizenship.

Amir retired from international cricket after the 2024 T20 World Cup. During his Pakistan career, he played 36 Tests, 61 One-Day Internationals and 62 T20 Internationals. Even after stepping away from international cricket, he continues to be a popular name in franchise leagues around the world because of his experience and skill with the new ball.
