Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Kareena Kapoor Khan may finally collaborate after years of speculation. Reports suggest the filmmaker has approached the actress for his next production starring Dhanush.
According to Bollywood Hungama, Kareena has been offered the female lead, a powerful parallel role alongside Dhanush. While she is reportedly interested, discussions over dates, remuneration and other terms are still ongoing.
One of the biggest reasons behind the buzz is Bhansali and Kareena's long history. She was once considered for Devdas, but the role eventually went to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Following the fallout, the filmmaker and actress never collaborated on a project.
Earlier, in an interview with Filmfare, Kareena had said, "I’ll never. What he did to me was wrong. He screen-tested me for Devdas, gave me a signing amount, then took someone else."
"That was wrong, it hurt especially because I was at the start of my career. It’s okay, because the day he dropped me, I signed Yaadein. Sanjay hurt me. Even if I have no work, I’ll never work with him," Kareena further added.
About the upcoming movie: The film is reportedly a large-scale mythological adventure set in a jungle, with an elephant playing a key role. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is producing the project, while P. S. Mithran will direct it.
The film is currently in development, with shooting expected to begin in January 2027. If Kareena comes on board, it will mark her first-ever collaboration with Bhansali, ending one of Bollywood's longest-discussed professional misses.
