Dacoit vs LIK Box Office Collection Day 8: As the second weekend of April 2026 begins, the box office is witnessing a fascinating tug-of-war between two stylistically opposite films. Adivi Sesh’s revenge-fuelled action drama Dacoit: A Love Story and Pradeep Ranganathan’s futuristic rom-com Love Insurance Kompany (LIK) have both crossed significant milestones, though their paths to success have been vastly different.

Dacoit Day 8: Surpassing Personal Best-Sellers

On its eighth day, 17 April 2026, Dacoit managed to maintain a steady, albeit slow, momentum. According to the trade website Sacnilk, the film collected 86 lakhs net in India on its second Friday. This takes its total domestic net collection to Rs 29.47 crore.

While the film received mixed reviews, it has officially overtaken the lifetime domestic collection of Adivi Sesh’s previous hit, HIT: The Second Case (Rs 25.92 crore). However, it still has some distance to cover to catch up to his career-best, Major, which earned Rs 41.03 crore. With a worldwide gross currently sitting at approximately Rs 46.89 crore, the film is benefitting from a strong overseas performance, which has contributed over Rs 12 crore to the total.

LIK Day 8: Global Success Despite Domestic Hurdles

Meanwhile, Love Insurance Kompany (LIK) is making waves with its high-concept narrative set in the year 2040. Despite "modest domestic growth" during its first week, the film has found a massive audience internationally. By the end of its eighth day, the Vignesh Shivan directorial crossed the ₹50 crore mark in worldwide gross collections.

The film’s India net collection currently stands at Rs 34.92 crore, significantly higher than Dacoit's domestic earnings. On its first Thursday (Day 7), LIK added Rs 2.44 crore to its tally, following a steady run through its opening week. The film's unique premise where people "insure" their relationships—has particularly appealed to urban audiences and the Tamil diaspora.

The Verdict: Who Is Winning?

While Love Insurance Kompany is currently the higher earner in terms of total volume, Dacoit is being hailed as a personal victory for Adivi Sesh, as it recorded the highest opening of Sesh’s career. Both films are now entering their second weekend, a crucial period that will determine if they can achieve the coveted hit status.

As one trade analyst noted, "it may not be a blockbuster start, but the film has managed to bring in a respectable Rs 13.57 crore worldwide on its first day" a sentiment that applies to both these experimental projects as they fight for survival in a competitive 2026 market.
