Emraan Hashmi has shared a major update on the re-release of the original Awarapan. The actor clarified that the 2007 film will return to theatres only after the release of Awarapan 2.
The clarification comes after reports claimed the film would re-release before the sequel. However, Emraan confirmed those reports were incorrect.
During an Instagram Live Session, Emraan Hashmi said, "Fans of the original Awarapan have already seen the first film, and I’m sure they’ll come to watch Awarapan 2 with those memories. After watching the sequel, they’ll leave the theatre with a whole new perspective on the first film."
"Then there’s an entire generation—especially Gen Z—that hasn’t watched Awarapan. After seeing Awarapan 2, they’ll be curious to go back and watch the original," said the actor.
Hashmi further added, "They can experience it as a standalone story, and in a way, it will become the prequel. They’ll get to see Shivam’s origin story after watching the sequel."
Emraan Hashmi said the release date for Awarapan will be announced soon. "I also want to clear up the reports that Awarapan was going to re-release in July. That’s not the case. The film will definitely be re-released very soon, but it will happen only after Awarapan 2. We’ll announce the exact release timeline soon," he said.
Awarapan 2 is scheduled to hit theatres on August 14. Along with Emraan Hashmi, it stars Disha Patani in lead role.
