Bankipur Bypoll Live Updates: Counting of votes for the bypolls in Bihar's Assembly Constituency, Bankipur, started on Monday at 8 am. Jan Suraaj Party's Prashant Kishor has taken an early lead in the Bankipur Assembly bypoll, leading BJP's Neeraj Kumar by 862 votes at the end of the first round of counting. The Jan Suraaj Party founder is attempting to wrest the BJP stronghold, vacated in April after former MLA and BJP national president Nitin Nabin was elected to the Rajya Sabha.

Counting is taking place under tight security and is expected to conclude after 31 rounds, with the BJP fielding Neeraj Kumar Sinha and the RJD once again backing Rekha Gupta. The bypoll, held on July 30, recorded a voter turnout of 34.30 per cent, down by more than 7 per cent from the 41.45 per cent registered in the last Assembly elections. A total of 26 candidates are in the fray this time.

- A JSP party worker says, “We are leading by a significant margin. We have received the figures for the first round: Jan Suraaj secured 2,220 votes, the BJP got 1,427, and the RJD received 501. Based on this margin, we are ahead by 800 votes and are set for victory. We have worked hard on the ground, and the public is looking for change this time.”
