In a major step to thwart cyber crimes and digital arrest attempts, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is set to launch an artificial intelligence (AI)-based chatbot called "Abhay," which will help people identify whether a notice they receive is genuine or a hoax orchestrated by a fraudster.
The CBI will launch the chatbot on Monday. The chatbot will aid people in identifying the fake notices before a digital arrest could start, thereby reducing the chances of cyber fraud.
What did the CBI spokesperson say?
Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant will dedicate 'Abhay' to the nation during the 22nd 'DP Kohli Memorial Lecture', organised in memory of the founding CBI Director DP Kohli.
haring the grim situation of cybercrime and digital arrests, a CBI spokesperson said, "In many cases, it has been observed that fraudsters, posing as CBI officers, show fake notices. They take people hostage by threatening them with digital arrest and extorting crores of rupees."

According to the CBI spokesperson, the chatbot will prove to be a 'powerful weapon' to eliminate this fear, allowing ordinary citizens to verify the authenticity of a notice within a few moments.
Supreme Court raised concerns over cybercrimes
The magnitude of the menace of cybercrime can be gauged from the fact that the Supreme Court recently termed it 'loot or robbery'.
The court expressed concern that cybercriminals have defrauded the country of Rs 54,000 crore. This move by the CBI is not only about disseminating technology, but also about honouring a great legacy. The foundation laid by DP Kohli, the first CBI Director in 1963, continues to be nurtured by the values of law and justice.
This memorial lecture is a platform to reflect on policing and judicial challenges, reshaping the resolve for accountability and security in modern times. Now, with "Abhay," citizens of the country will feel safe from digital fraudsters.
