Chennai Weather: The India Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for April 22 and 23 across several districts of Tamil Nadu, forecasting light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms ahead of the elections.
This comes as summer intensifies across the state, with temperatures rising sharply. On Saturday, at least 12 locations recorded temperatures above 38 degrees C. Karur Paramathi recorded the highest at 41 degrees C, followed by Vellore and Erode at 40 degrees C each. Tiruppur, Dharmapuri, and Madurai Airport also saw temperatures touching 39 degrees C.
According to the IMD, from Sunday (April 19) to April 23, maximum temperatures in the interior districts of Tamil Nadu are likely to remain 2-3 degrees C above normal. However, coastal regions, including Puducherry and Karaikal, are expected to experience near-normal temperatures. Despite this, high humidity levels could lead to significant discomfort in these coastal areas.
For Chennai and its suburbs, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy. The maximum temperature will hover around 36-37 degrees C, while the minimum may settle near 27 degrees C, with humid conditions likely to cause discomfort. Similar weather conditions are expected the following day.
