The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued an orange alert for Dehradun, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and intense spells of rain.
The weather office cautioned that the adverse weather could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, overflowing streams and rivulets, and minor to moderate landslides and rockfalls in vulnerable locations. It also warned of possible damage to property, livestock and human life due to lightning.
Residents have been advised to:
* Remain indoors during thunderstorms
* Stay away from electrical conductors
* Take shelter in safe, permanent structures.
* People living in landslide-prone areas and near rivers and streams have been urged to remain vigilant.
The IMD has forecast temperatures in the region to range between 25 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Celsius.
Heavy Rain Disrupts Jaunsar
Torrential rain since Sunday night has disrupted normal life in Dehradun’s Jaunsar region, triggering multiple landslides and blocking several key roads, leaving traffic suspended and affecting the transportation of agricultural produce.
According to officials, landslides and debris have blocked several roads, including:
* Kalsi-Chakrata State Highway
* Haripur-Ichchhadi Motor Road
* Kharsi Link Road
* Pariyad-Simog Road
* Kotha Band-Chandou-Sainj Motor Road

The road closures have particularly affected local farmers, who are unable to transport vegetables and other cash crops to nearby markets, resulting in financial losses.
The Public Works Department (PWD) said the Kalsi-Chakrata State Highway has been reopened on a priority basis, while JCB machines have been deployed to clear debris from the remaining blocked roads. Restoration work is continuing despite intermittent rainfall, and officials said traffic on all affected routes will be resumed as soon as possible.
