The Delhi-Dehradun Greenfield Access Control Highway (Economic Corridor), built with the aim of accelerating progress, is beginning to yield results. The Delhi-Meerut Expressway (NE-3) and the Meerut-Roorkee-Haridwar Highway (old NH-58) have seen a nearly seven per cent reduction in vehicle traffic. This is because vehicles traveling directly from Delhi to Dehradun and Mussoorie are shifting to the new highway, jagran.com reported.
E-buses from Delhi to Dehradun have also started running on the new Greenfield Highway. Vehicles coming from Delhi, Noida, and Gurugram currently travel to Haridwar and Rishikesh via Meerut. The Haridwar connector will also open in June, after which vehicles from Haridwar and Rishikesh can also be transferred to the Delhi-Dehradun Greenfield Access Control Highway.
Along with Delhi, the people from Meerut will also soon benefit from the new highway. The first benefit is that the reduction in traffic on the old NH-58 will increase the speed of vehicles here. Secondly, the people of Meerut can also reach Dehradun in less time by using the new Greenfield Highway.
It takes 4.30 hours to reach Dehradun via the old route, but it takes 3.20 hours via the Greenfield Highway via the Shamli-Karnal Highway. The Delhi-Dehradun Greenfield Highway was inaugurated on April 14.
“The opening of the Delhi-Dehradun Greenfield Highway Economic Corridor has reduced traffic on the Meerut Expressway by thousands on Saturdays and Sundays. E-buses travelling from Delhi to Dehradun are now using the new corridor instead of the expressway. Other vehicles have also been affected,” said Dinesh Chhoker, Toll Manager, Kashi Toll Plaza, Meerut Expressway.
Online Maps Have Started Showing New Route
The Delhi-Dehradun Greenfield Access Control Highway has been opened and is now visible on online maps like Google Safari and Maples India. This allows travellers to select their preferred route.
The opening of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Economic Corridor has impacted the Meerut-Roorkee-Haridwar Highway on weekends. A large number of vehicles travel via this route to Dehradun, Haridwar, and Rishikesh. Local vehicles, along with those from Noida and Ghaziabad, use the route, but now the number of vehicles coming from Delhi and Gurugram has decreased by seven per cent, said Anuj Som, Senior Manager, Sivaya Toll Plaza, Meerut as quoted by jagran.com.
