Delhi-NCR Weather Update: Residents of Delhi and the parts of the national capital region (NCR), including Noida, Gurugram and Faridabad, received much-needed relief from the scorching heat on Friday as a sudden weather shift brought strong winds, thunderstorms, and light rain to several areas.

Earlier in the day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for the national capital, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by light rain in a few isolated pockets of the city. Similar conditions are expected to extend into the surrounding areas, including Noida, Faridabad, and Gurugram, providing a brief respite from the early-summer heat.

While the sudden downpour brought much-needed relief from scorching heat, it triggered chaos on roads, derailing traffic at several key junctions.

Relief After Hottest Night Of The Season

This relief comes after the city recorded a minimum temperature of 24 degrees Celsius, the highest so far this season. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 39 degrees Celsius.

Why Was Delhi Hazy Today?

The national capital witnessed a haze and cloud cover on Friday due to an induced cyclonic circulation over the western parts of Rajasthan and neighbouring Pakistan.

Speaking to PTI, meteorologists said, "Dust particles from these areas have travelled towards Delhi-NCR, resulting in a layer of dust haze and a deterioration in air quality."

Experts further noted that the weather in Delhi is influenced by ongoing activity in neighbouring regions, including Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Churu, and Bikaner in Rajasthan, which experienced thunderstorms and light rain yesterday.

Temperatures To Rise After Brief Respite

The recent relief is expected to be short-lived as experts warn of a sharp rise in temperatures across Delhi-NCR and northwest India over the next two to three days. Temperatures are expected to touch 41 to 42 degrees Celsius, triggering heatwave conditions in several parts of the city.
