- Ghaziabad schools closed August 4-12 for Kanwar Yatra.

In view of the ongoing Kanwar Yatra, all schools in Ghaziabad, from nursery to Class 12, will remain closed from August 4 to August 12, following directions issued by the District Magistrate. The decision aims to ensure the safety of students and ease traffic congestion caused by the movement of lakhs of Kanwariyas.
All concerned authorities have been told to adhere to the orders of the administration and warned of taking action in case of violation. The order applies to schools affiliated to the Basic Education Council, Secondary Education Council, CBSE, ICSE, and all other accepted boards, and schools and institutions functioning under the Madrasa Board.
To ensure that students' studies are not disrupted, schools have been instructed to conduct online classes during the closure period. Students will attend classes from home.
The official said that the step has been taken as a precautionary measure so that the safety and comfort of students in schools can be ascertained due to the Kanwar Yatra. Along with Ghaziabad, schools have been announced closed in Meerut and Muzaffarnagar.
Kanwar Yatra Behind The Decision
The Kanwar Yatra began on July 30 and will continue until August 28, 2026. Every year, millions of devotees travel through western Uttar Pradesh to collect holy water from Haridwar, resulting in heavy traffic and extensive security arrangements.
