Nagpur Rape Case: A 19-year-old BBA student arrested for the alleged abduction and sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl in Nagpur has reportedly refused to cooperate with custodial interrogation. Additionally, reports suggest that he has begun demanding premium accommodations, including pizza for breakfast and high-end dinners, instead of standard lock-up fare.
According to Jagran.com report, citing police officials, the accused has complained about the conditions in the lock-up. He is demanding pizza, good food, a soft bed, and mosquito repellents, while also raising objections regarding the dirty walls and unhygienic toilets. The student, identified as Nirbhay Pakhare, was arrested on Monday for allegedly holding a minor girl captive and sexually assaulting her multiple times for over 24 hours at a rented apartment in Maharashtra’s Nagpur.
The accused faces charges of attempted murder and offenses under the POCSO Act. Earlier on Wednesday, police stated that he refused to undergo a medical examination, before being forcibly taken and also declined to disclose the security passwords for both his own mobile phone and the victim's phone. He had befriended the victim through social media app Instagram. Police also revealed that they have found evidence of a pre-planned conspiracy.
According to reports, Pakhare had created a fake Instagram profile, named Akash Mehra, in May last year. He connected the victim through that profile. After building a friendship with her online, he allegedly obtained explicit photographs of her. He used the photos to blackmail her into meeting him in person. During the probe, police found out that he had initially assaulted the girl at a hotel.
How Was He Arrested?
Later, he rented the Dighori apartment with an intent to continue abusing her during his trips from Thane. On Sunday, Pakhare brought the girl to the apartment but didn't free her this time. When she didn't return home on Monday, her father, a senior government official, filed a complaint with the police. The police swung into action and got a breakthrough after analysing her Instagram chats.
The digital footprints of the accused revealed the address of his Thane residence and he was subsequently arrested. Upon arriving at the location, police found the girl tied to the bed and a knife placed next to her. She bore at least 20 deep wounds and bite marks on her body, including on her wrists and private parts. The victim was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
