'Pakistan Pleaded For Ceasefire': Ex-CDS Anil Chauhan's Big Operation Sindoor Revelation

Retired Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan has shared an interesting anecdote about Operation Sindoor. He said that Pakistan contacted India on the morning of May 10, 2025, asking for a ceasefire, however, India deliberately delayed its response.

On the morning of May 10, a panicked Pakistan reached out to India via the DGMO hotline, demanding an immediate ceasefire amid Operation Sindoor. However, India made the conscious decision to keep Pakistan waiting until the afternoon. According to Gen Chauhan, this was because half of India's planned attacks on Pakistan were still pending.

Speaking at a media event, Gen Anil Chauhan underlined that India was determined to achieve its military objectives before agreeing to halt the operation.

The former CDS, who played a key role in the planning and execution of Operation Sindoor, said Pakistan had sought a ceasefire believing that its attacks on Indian positions had achieved their desired effect and was afraid of further escalation by Delhi.

How Did Operation Sindoor Reach A Ceasefire?

Gen Chauhan revealed that the biggest surprise for him was when Pakistan called India on May 10 for talks. He said, "It was surprising, because the kind of rhetoric coming out from Pakistan on May 9 was that they would settle the issue with India in 48 hours."

Rapid Attacks On Pakistani Military Bases

However, from the night of May 9 to the afternoon of May 10, India launched a series of attacks on 11 Pakistani military sites and airbases, damaging hangars, radar sites and several fighter jets.

Large-Scale Attacks Were Carried Out On Pakistan, Says Gen Anil Chauhan

Gen Chauhan underlined that this was to send a clear message that no military installation in Pakistan was beyond the reach of the armed forces. He added that having a clear picture of the battlefield and one's realistic capabilities proved crucial. India carried out large-scale attacks on Pakistan without crossing the border and inflicted damage on military installations.
