Monsoon Session: Following repeated adjournments in Parliament, parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju met the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday. The discussion between the two focused on key FCRA and delimitation bills in an attempt to break the deadlock in the house, reported news agency PTI, citing sources. The meeting, largely seen as a "confidence-building measure" from the government's side, took place at Gandhi's office in Parliament House.

Agenda Of Key Meeting

The meeting lasted for about 50 minutes and was also attended by Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Wadra. Apart from this, other senior Congress leaders, including KC Venugopal and Gaurav Gogoi, also joined the meeting later, sources confirmed. Rijiju reportedly urged Gandhi to participate in the discussions on the key bills and convince the opposition MPs to not create a ruckus during the proceedings.

The two senior leaders also discussed the key bills likely to be tabled in the current session, including the delimitation bill and the FCRA bill. However, the exact response of Rahul Gandhi is not known yet, maintaining suspense on whether Parliament will operate smoothly on Thursday.

Rijiju To Meet Oppn Leaders

Rijiju, following his detailed meeting with Gandhi, later met Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the future strategy. The union minister is also soon likely to meet other senior opposition leaders, including Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav, in an effort to end the deadlock.

Opposition's Demands

The monsoon session began earlier, on July 20, but the Lok Sabha has not been able to complete its Question Hour due to the ruckus by the opposition leaders. Following the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the opposition has persisted on demands of a clarification from Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged use of excessive police force against the protesters.

Apart from this, the Samajwadi Party has also been demanding a special discussion on the alleged theft in the donation of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
