Women's Reservation Bill 2026: Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader and LoP Lok Sabha, spoke during the special session of Parliament on the Women's Reservation (Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam Bill) on Friday. While underlining the importance of the bill, Gandhi's comment on 'wife' broke the laughter in the Lower House.

"Women are a driving force in our national imagination. All of us have been influenced, taught, and learned a lot from women in their lives," he said, adding that Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) and I don’t have that wife issue.

While attacking the government, Rahul Gandhi referred to PM Modi as a magician, saying that his magic no longer works because the magician has finally been caught. "The magician of Balakot, the magician of demonetisation, the magician of Sindoor, he has suddenly been caught," Gandhi added.

Here Are The Key Highlights Of Gandhi's Speech In The Lower House:

  • I want to assure southern, northeastern, smaller states that we will not allow the government to touch your representation in Union of India, he said.
  • What the government is doing is nothing short of anti-national act; we won't allow you to do it, the entire opposition will defeat this, Gandhi asserted.
  • The government is telling southern, northeastern, small states that for the BJP to remain in power, "we are going to take away representation from you", he alleged.
  • BJP is scared of erosion of its strength, and the government is trying to rejig the Indian political map as it did in Assam and Jammu and Kashmir, Gandhi said.
  • The government is trying to avoid giving power and representation to OBCs; this is its agenda, he added.
  • Bring back the 2023 Women's Reservation Bill and we will help you pass it for implementation, this second, asserted the Congress leader.
  • This is not a women's bill; this has nothing to do with the empowerment of women, Gandhi said.
  • Women are a driving force in our national perspective, he added.
