Jagran Correspondent, Amritsar: The internal conflict within Punjab Congress took a new turn on Wednesday after posters against former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi were found in several regions of Amritsar. The posters accused Channi of being close to the BJP, with others urging senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to expel him from the party. As the locals headed for morning walks, several of them were seen reading the texts on the creative posters against the senior leader.

The posters later got circulated on multiple social media platforms, exposing the internal crisis that the grand old party is facing. While it remains unclear of who placed these posters, this was an attempt to defame the former chief minister and link him to the BJP. However, Channi or any other senior leaders of the party have not spoken on the issue yet.
The posters surfaced amid an alleged rift between Channi and party state president Amrinder Raja Warring over leadership ahead of the state assembly polls. The reports suggest that Channi, along with other leaders, including Sukhjinder Randhawa, has been demanding the removal of Warring. However, the high command is reportedly not in favor of making drastic changes ahead of the polls.
Rift Intensifies
Earlier last week, a high-profile meeting between KC Venugopal, Channi, and Warring was held at Rahndhawa's residence in Delhi to resolve the dispute. While the leaders claimed that there is no internal crisis within the party, a heavy ruckus erupted the next day at party state-in-charge Bhupesh Baghel's meeting in Punjab.
As per the reports, while the high command has proposed to contest the polls under the leadership of Raja Warring, the chief minister's face will not be declared. Earlier in 2022 polls, Congress faced a similar situation when the party received a humiliating defeat due to the internal rifts.
