Lok Sabha LoP and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday praised his sister and fellow party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra during a discussion in Parliament. He said that people in the House, including himself, have learned a lot from women and especially mentioned his sister Priyanka, saying he felt proud of her.

Rahul Gandhi Praises Sister Priyanka

Gandhi said he saw Priyanka achieve in a few minutes something he had not managed in many years of political life, which is making Home Minister Amit Shah smile during a parliamentary exchange. Gandhi said this made him happy as her elder brother, and he also recalled a story from his grandmother, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, about overcoming fear.

“Yesterday I was watching my sister achieve something in five minutes that I have not been able to in, maybe, 20 years of our political career, which was to make Amit Shah ji smile,” he said. Both Priyanka and Shah were not present in the House at that moment, but the remark led to laughter across party lines.

Priyanka's Address In Parliament

Priyanka on Thursday had spoken during a special debate in the Lok Sabha on bills related to increasing the number of seats in Parliament and providing one-third reservation for women. During her speech, she made a light remark about Amit Shah, which led to laughter in the House. “The current government is once again trying to deceive the nation, launching a major attack on the country’s integrity. On one hand, it speaks at length about women’s empowerment, while on the other, it is quietly taking away the rights of OBCs and weakening some states. By undermining India's democracy, it is building a framework to strengthen its party ahead of the next elections,” she said.

She also alleged that the government was using the women’s reservation issue for political gain. Priyanka accused it of weakening the rights of some states and communities while presenting the move as women’s empowerment. She added that if the ancient strategist Chanakya were alive today, he would be surprised by the government’s political planning.

Later, responding to Priyanka’s remark, Shah explained that the distribution of seats would remain balanced, including for southern states, even after the increase.
