Jharkhand Student Protest: Amid the ongoing student's protest in Jharkhand against irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC exams, student leader Devendra Nath Mahato on Wednesday ended his hunger strike after talking to educationist Sonam Wangchuk via video call. As per the reports, Wangchuk sought details of the alleged irregularities and the demands of protesting students. He further expressed concern about Mahato's health, appealing to him to end the fast while continuing the protest.

Mahato, following request from Sonam Wangchuk, ended his hunger strike; however, he announced that the protest will continue until the state government fulfills their demands. Mahato was on a hunger strike at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium for the past four days.

Following success of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led students protest in Delhi against the NEET paper leak, thousands gathered in Munda stadium earlier in July.

What Are Demands?

The protesters have sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).

Apart from this, the students have also demanded cancellation of the 14th JPSC Combined Civil Services Preliminary Examination. The protesters have also demanded timely examinations and appointments, further stating that structural reforms must be done in the recruitment agencies to increase the transparency.

"If the government still does not wake up, we will fight for our rights and for the rights of future generations. The situation has reached a critical point. People have been suffering under this system and have felt cheated for the last 26 years...This government came to power through a democratic process, and in a democracy, the government must listen to the people and respect their voice," a protestor was quoted as saying by the news agency ANI.
