A wedding function in Uttar Pradesh's Basti district took an unexpected turn after an 11-year-old boy was thrown into a burning tandoor by a catering worker. The child has suffered severe burn injuries and is currently being treated in the Lucknow Medical College hospital.

What Had Happened?

The disheartening incident took place on Wednesday. The injured child, identified as Chaman, went to a wedding with his grandmother in the village. During the function, he saw a rasgulla stall and went there. He started having rasgullas from the stall. However, the catering contractor became angry when the boy kept taking rasgullas repeatedly.

The man first caught and threatened the child and then lifted him and brought him close to a burning tandoor. While doing this, the child lost balance and fell into the tandoor.

Witnessing this, people at the venue quickly rushed to the spot after hearing the child's cries and pulled him out of the tandoor. By then, he had suffered serious burn injuries from his face down to his waist.

The wedding attendees then took Chaman to Ayodhya Medical College for treatment. After providing initial medical care, doctors referred him to Lucknow Medical College due to his condition.

The accused catering worker then fled from the scene. Upon receiving information, the police reached the village and started an investigation. A complaint was filed by the child's maternal uncle, Devidin Nishad, against the tandoor worker.

The injured child has been identified as a resident of the Gonda district. After the death of his mother, Chaman had been living with his maternal relatives in the Basti district, where he was studying in Class 2.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Swarnima Singh said a child was burnt in an incident involving fire and that a case has been registered against an unidentified person. "Police teams are conducting raids to trace the accused, and efforts are underway to arrest him at the earliest," Singh said.
