Uttarakhand Rain Alert: IMD Issues Orange Alert For Dehradun, Chamoli; Heavy Downpour Likely In Nainital, Tehri

Uttarakhand Weather Update: Amid the continuous heavy rainfall, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain for several districts of Uttarakhand, including Dehradun, Chamoli, and Bageshwar. The heavy rainfall on Wednesday, particularly in Dehradun and nearby regions, led to a surge in water levels of the water bodies. Apart from this, landslides were reported at various sites in the hilly regions, causing inconveniences to the locals and tourists.

Rain Alert For Multiple Regions

The weather department has also issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in multiple districts, including Tehri, Uttarkashi, Pauri, Pithoragarh, Champawat, Nainital, and Rudraprayag. Along with heavy rain, these regions are also expected to witness thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.

As per the reports, the Alaknanda River is flowing above the danger mark due to the continuous rain in the Rudraprayag district. The administration has been on alert as the sudden surge in water level has flooded the lower regions, leading to inconveniences. The residents have been advised to follow the guidelines and limit their outings during the rainy activities.

Heavy Rain In Dehradun

The rainfall in the capital city Dehradun and nearby regions began on Tuesday night and continued till the morning hours of Wednesday. The continuously intensified rain caused waterlogging on the roads, leading to inconveniences to the daily commuters. While over 150 mm of rain was recorded in Chakrata, Mussoorie, and Dhanaulti in the past 24 hours, various parts of Dehradun recorded up to 60 mm of rain.

Due to continuous rain, the water level of several rivers, including the Rispana, Bindal, Song, and Suswa, increased significantly, creating flood-like conditions in low-lying areas. Waterlogging disrupted traffic at many locations, while debris on mountain roads also caused disruptions in commuting.

According to the meteorological center, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely in most districts of the state on Thursday.
