Weather Update: IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert For Uttarakhand, Maharashtra; Check Forecast For Bengal, Odisha

Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued orange and yellow alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall across 19 states today. In its advisory, the weather department stated that these states are also expected to witness thunderstorms and gusty winds. The influence of a monsoon trough and an active cyclonic circulation has completely changed the weather patterns across North, East, and Central India.

Uttarakhand On High Alert

The weather department has kept Uttarakhand on high alert and stated that the hilly districts are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall on Thursday. As per the advisory, there is a possibility of landslides and a sudden surge of water levels due to torrential rains in these regions. The tourists have been advised to follow the guidelines and plan their travel accordingly to avoid any inconveniences.

As per the advisory, the cloudy weather is likely to persist in the northern states such as Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana. Several regions of these states could witness intermittent heavy rain throughout the day, leading to waterlogging in low-lying regions.

Rain Likely In These States

Along with rain, several districts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are also likely to witness thunderstorms, gusty winds, and lightning. Heavy rain warnings have also been issued for Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and the northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura. Apart from this, a warning of moderate to very heavy rainfall has also been issued in other parts of the country, including Kerala, Konkan-Goa, Odisha, and Central Maharashtra.

Advisory For Fishermen

The weather department stated that strong winds of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour are expected in coastal states and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. In view of the high waves and poor weather conditions, the IMD has strongly advised fishermen to limit their financial activities for the next few days. The administration has advised the public to avoid travel during bad weather and stay in safe places during lightning.
