TCS Nashik Conversion Case: 'Conversion', 'Love Jihad' and other Hindu-Muslim issues are not unfamiliar to people outside offices, especially in the political circle, but at the workplace, professional ethics are religiously followed, and there is no room for such divisive and controversial things. However, the shocking TCS Nashik conversion case is an eye-opener for the country. The case is rare as, so far, Indian corporates have not witnessed such a crime at the premises of the firms.
What Is TCS Nashik Conversion Case?
The sensational case of alleged forced religious conversion, sexual harassment, and workplace exploitation at Tata Consultancy Services' (TCS) Nashik came to light after police conducted an undercover probe in the BPO. Police launched a secret probe after a 23-year-old TCS employee filed a complaint, alleging that her senior coworker, Danish Shaikh, had harassed her sexually and had engaged in a sexual relationship with her under false pretences of marriage. Seven other female employees at the company's Nashik office also levelled allegations of sexual harassment and coercion for religious conversion against their senior colleagues.

IT Sector Body Approaches Labour Ministry
IT sector employees' body NITES (Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate) approached the Ministry of Labour and Employment seeking a detailed audit of POSH compliance in Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and batted for a wider state-level audit across tech and ITES companies, especially large multinational organisations in Maharashtra. NITES urged the ministry to take "immediate and decisive action" by directing a comprehensive and time-bound audit and inspection.
NCW Sets Up Panel To Probe Alleged Sexual Harassment
The National Commission for Women also stepped in and set up a fact-finding committee to probe the matter. In a statement, the Commission said the panel will visit the facility on April 18 to conduct an on-the-spot inquiry, examine the circumstances leading to the incident and assess the response of the authorities. "The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognisance of serious media reports concerning alleged incidents of sexual harassment of women at the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) BPO unit in Nashik, Maharashtra," the statement read.
The panel will also suggest remedial measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents and strengthen workplace safety mechanisms for women. The committee has been asked to submit its report to the NCW within 10 working days, following which it will present its findings in person, the statement said.
Why Is TCS Case Is Alarming?
The conversion allegation at a prestigious company like TCS raises serious questions about the safety of women in the entire corporate sector, especially the IT industry. It is alleged that certain senior officials engaged in sexual harassment and forced conversions. The victims claimed that girls from weak economic backgrounds were targeted. Police claimed that there was a module that was targeting employees from the weaker sections. The case sends a worrying message to parents, who send their daughters to metro cities to work in the MNCs. Until now, the Indian corporate world was seen as a safe place for female employees. Now, the government and Industrial leaders must nip the bud and work to make the workplace safe for everyone.
