Apple OLED iPad Air launch date: Apple might be shaking up things in the display department for the 2027 model of the iPad Air, reports suggest, and an OLED display might be on the anvil when it comes to the mid-range line-up of its tablets. Samsung might be the one this time providing the panels, and if reports are true, panel production could start by late 2026 or early 2027 for a seamless transition. This aligns with Apple's strategy of expanding OLED displays across its ecosystem beyond just its flagship offerings.

Apple To Revamp iPad Display With OLED Panel From Samsung
Further advancements towards OLED screens for iPads from Apple continue. A new report published by ETNews mentions that next generation iPad Air will be prepared for the release in early 2027, most probably in March or May.
Samsung Display appears to be responsible for providing the required OLED displays. For that purpose, manufacturing might be started either by the end of 2026 or early 2027, to guarantee a continuous flow of products before the release.
It should be noted that a gradual transition to OLED screens is the strategy of Apple for all its tablet products line. Specifically, iPad Pro became the owner of such a screen last year. Additionally, the company is also going to provide OLED screen for iPad Mini in Q3 2026, leaving iPad as the only product with LCD screen.
For the iPad Air, Apple is reportedly opting for a more cost-conscious OLED implementation. Instead of the advanced dual-stack panels seen on the Pro, the Air could feature a single-stack emissive layer paired with LTPS TFT technology and a hybrid substrate. This combination should help keep production costs in check, allowing Apple to introduce OLED without significantly pushing up the price. It is claimed that the iPad Air is the one that sells more units than the higher Pro model, and this OLED move is likely to balance quality and cost; this move also follows reports suggesting weaker iPad Pro reception despite OLED panels, as the pricing was higher.

Currently the panels are provided by Samsung Display and LG Display for the iPad Pro model, but it looks like Samsung will take the lead when it comes to next-gen devices like the iPad Air, Mini and maybe some future MacBook Pro models. Then there are reports of market predictions that suggest a bull run for OLED panels in the coming times, and shipments for the same are expected to increase at a steady pace through 2027, and Apple could be leading this momentum as it expands its OLED base. Although one must note that this is not officially confirmed by Apple, the timeline is based on information from the supply chain, and other reports also suggest that we could see an OLED iPad by 2027 at the earliest, if that happens.
