PS6 graphics upgrade: PlayStation 6 and its rumours have been spiralling on the internet for a while now, giving gamers and enthusiasts a taste of what the console might have to offer this time. Now there is another leak out now that suggests the kind of performance the latest console from Sony can offer, specifically in things like ray tracing and even backwards compatibility. Also, the PlayStation 6 itself has already been spoken of as a revolutionary console, particularly with respect to visuals powered by AI technology. Based on leaks, Sony is set to take things up a notch with their current PSSR technology.

Ray Tracing Could See A Huge Jump

According to YouTuber Moore's Law Is Dead, the PS6 could deliver up to a 10x improvement in ray tracing performance. Alongside that, AI capabilities are said to see a “multiple magnitudes” jump, which could directly impact how games look and feel.

The idea here is simple. Instead of relying only on raw hardware gains, Sony may lean heavily on AI to improve lighting, reflections, and overall visual quality in real time.

Not Everyone Agrees On The Graphics Leap

Interestingly, gaming journalist Destin Legarie recently suggested that the PS6 might not bring a dramatic jump in traditional graphics. But that’s where the disagreement starts.

The leaker pushed back on that view, saying the next-gen console will still deliver a “massive graphical leap", just not in the way older generations were measured.

“We didn't measure PS3's performance based on how well it ran 2D sprites. We won't measure PS6 with last-gen metrics either. It's a new generation,” the source said.

AI Upscaling Could Be Central To The Experience

A big part of this shift could come from AI upscaling. Sony has already introduced PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution with the PS5 Pro, which uses machine learning to upscale lower-resolution visuals closer to 4K.

The system works by analysing frames in real time, rebuilding detail, and reducing noise, all while keeping performance stable. This will make it one of the most important aspects of the PS6.

Improved Memory and Faster Performance Will Be Achieved

Apart from visual enhancements, leaks are indicating enhanced memory bandwidth and unified memory architecture. This could help improve the speed of interaction between the CPU and GPU.

Practically, this would lead to better detail in environments, fast loading, and enhanced game performance.

Backward Compatibility Expected

Backward compatibility is also expected to remain. As indicated by references found by members of the Broken Silicon podcast, the new machine, codenamed Canis, appears to support both PS4 and PS5 games.

The implications of this development, assuming it proves true, will be that gamers can retain their current gaming library.

Still No Official Word From Sony

All of this remains based on leaks and reports. Sony hasn’t officially confirmed the PS6 or its features yet. While earlier timelines pointed to a 2027 launch alongside the next Xbox, there’s also a chance Sony stretches the PS5 lifecycle further before making the jump.
