US-Iran War: Following failed talks with Iran in Pakistan's Islamabad, US President Donald Trump ordered a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf. Despite the blockade, an Iranian-flagged cargo ship attempted to transit the waterway on Wednesday. The US Navy intercepted the vessel, effectively forcing it to change course and turn back toward Iran.

US Military Intercepts Iranian-Flagged Ships In Hormuz

According to the US Central Command, an Iranian-flagged cargo ship attempted to evade the US blockade after departing Bandar Abbas and moving through the Strait of Hormuz along Iran's coastline.

However, the guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance (DDG 111) intervened, effectively forcing it to change course and turn back toward Iran.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the command said, "Yesterday, an Iranian-flagged cargo vessel tried to evade the U.S. blockade after leaving Bandar Abbas, exiting the Strait of Hormuz, and transiting along the Iranian coastline. The guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance (DDG 111) successfully redirected the vessel, which is heading back to Iran."

According to a report, 10 vessels have been forced to turn back since the naval blockade began.

Iran Warns Of Dangerous Consequences

Meanwhile, Tehran has issued a stern warning to the United States, signalling that the ongoing naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz could deepen instability in the already fragile region.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi held a phone call with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday. According to the state broadcaster, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), Araghchi briefed his counterpart on the latest regional developments following the ceasefire while sounding an alarm over recent American moves.

During the exchange, Araghchi highlighted the US naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, warning that such steps risk worsening the situation on the ground.

"Our country's Foreign Minister, describing the latest developments in the region after the ceasefire, warned of the dangerous consequences of America's provocative positions and actions in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, which will lead to a more complicated situation in the region," the statement read.
