Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said he received a phone call from French President Emmanuel Macron. The two leaders discussed the evolving situation in West Asia and promised cooperation to advance peace in the region. PM Modi’s conversation with Macron comes shortly after he spoke with US President Donald Trump on Tuesday.

PM Modi, Macron Discuss West Asia Crisis

In a post on X, PM Modi noted that both the leaders agreed on the urgent need to restore safety and ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasised that India and France will continue close cooperation to promote peace and stability in the region. “Received a phone call from my dear friend President Emmanuel Macron. We discussed the situation in West Asia and agreed on the need to urgently restore safety and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. We will continue our close cooperation to advance peace and stability in the region and beyond,” PM Modi wrote.

PM Modi-Trump Call

Earlier on Tuesday, PM Modi held a 40-minute-long telephonic conversation with Trump. This was the second phone call from the US President after March 24. The two leaders had discussed the situation in West Asia, while stressing the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure. They also reviewed the progress achieved in bilateral cooperation in various sectors.

Sharing details about the call, PM Modi wrote on X, “Received a call from my friend President Donald Trump. We reviewed the substantial progress achieved in our bilateral cooperation in various sectors. We are committed to further strengthening our Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership in all areas. We also discussed the situation in West Asia and stressed the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure.”

US Warns Iran

Meanwhile, on Thursday, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth warned that Washington is “reloading with more power than before,” highlighting military readiness as the April 22 deadline nears. He asserted that the maritime blockade against Iran will be maintained "for as long as it takes." Hegseth stated that American forces are prepared to restart military strikes should Tehran decline a potential peace agreement.
