Will Ceasefire Between Israel And Lebanon Impact India?

We all in India experienced the impact of the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, following a US-Israel war with Iran, which triggered a global fuel havoc. The war, which impacted our kitchen budget and the business of hoteliers, saw active involvement of Iran-backed Hezbollah fighters, prompting Israel to launch unprecedented bombing on the southern parts of Lebanon, in which thousands of people were killed. Being a fuel-importing nation, India is indirectly affected by the hostility in the Middle East. Any step in the direction to put an end to the crisis and bring normalcy will certainly leave positive effects on India.

Here Are Five Major Factors

1. Oil Price Stability: The US-Iran war in the Middle East disrupts oil supplies and increases fuel prices, which affects the Indian oil and gas market. The ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon removed a big roadblock from the path to achieving an everlasting deal between Iran and the US. Iran constantly stressed that without a ceasefire in Lebanon, it will not agree to any deal with the US.

2. Protection Of Indian Diaspora and Workers: Around one crore Indians live in the Middle East countries, including Lebanon and Israel. War threatens their lives and creates challenges to repatriation. A normalcy will ensure their safety and economic support to their families in India through remittances.

3. Boost To Infra Projects: Several key infrastructure projects like the IMEC (India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor), in which India's interest is also attached, will get momentum if normalcy returns in the region. The IMEC project passes through Israel, the UAE, and other countries, which will give a new dimension to India-Europe trade.

4. Impact On Defence and Technical Cooperation With Israel: A stable Israel is in favour of India as our country imports drones, missile systems, and other defence technology from Israel.

5. Impact On Strait Of Hormuz: Despite diversification efforts in the last few weeks in the fuel-importing destinations, India's approximately 25%-30% crude oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz.
