In a shocking incident, eight children were killed in a shooting incident in the United States' Louisiana on Sunday. The police have described the incident as a "domestic disturbance."

According to a report by the news agency AP, the victims range in age from one to 14 years old. The shooting started at around 6 am on Sunday, according to Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith.

10 shot, eight dead

He added that a total of 10 people were shot. Soon after the incident, officials reached the crime scene. They said that they were still gathering details about the crime scene, which extended across three locations.

Shreveport Police Chief Smith said the suspected shooter was fatally shot by police during a vehicle chase. "This is an extensive scene, unlike anything most of us have ever seen," Smith added.

Accused hijacked car, shot dead in chase

Shreveport Police Department spokesperson Christopher Bordelon told NBC that the individual who was believed to be the gunman had hijacked a car after the shooting.

The cops started a chase in which he was shot dead by the police, Bordelon said. While the police did not share any information on the accused, Bordelon told NBC that some of the slain children "were his descendants."

Louisiana State Police said that Shreveport police have asked their detectives to investigate the case. In a statement, state police said that no cops were harmed in the shooting that involved an officer after a police pursuit into Bossier City on Sunday morning.

State police are engaging with people, asking anyone with pictures, video or information to share them with state police detectives.
